Choosing a plastic surgeon you can trust is a very important step in the process of achieving an optimal surgical result.

Choosing a surgeon who is an active member of the main associations that accredit these professionals guarantees that you have selected a doctor who:

Has completed surgical training with a minimum of two years in plastic surgery.

He is highly trained and has proven experience in all plastic surgery procedures, including body, facial and reconstructive surgeries.

Operates only in medical facilities with the necessary accreditations to comply with national and international security protocols.

Meets continuing medical education requirements, adheres to patient safety standards and innovations.

It is very important that you look for the surgeon you select, in the case of the Dominican Republic that is a member of the Dominican Society of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (SODOCIPRE) and other important international ones such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeon (ASPS) and the International Society of Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) that leads the global alliance of plastic surgeons, as is the case of Dr. Franklin Peña.

If you are planning plastic surgery in the near future, you should consider these questions when you visit your plastic surgeon:

Are you certified by SODOCIPRE (if you are Dominican)?
It is one of the most important questions, you must be an active member and be able to show you your certificate of validity.

Do you have specialized training in plastic surgery?
In addition to having obtained training as a doctor, you must have a specialty in plastic surgery. This guarantees a specialized educational path for such purposes, since first a residency as a general surgeon is carried out and then the specialty of plastic surgery, completing about 6 years of studies.

Is the surgical center where you perform the interventions duly certified by the relevant authorities?
It is very important that the hospital center is suitable for a surgical intervention, it must have the necessary hygiene and professional staff for medical assistance. Remember: a plastic surgeon cannot operate alone, he needs a trained medical team to provide him with the necessary support.

Am I a good candidate for the intervention I want to have?
Each plastic surgery has its requirements to minimize risk in the operating room. In general, you must have a good state of health, and that the relevant tests are in their proper values.

How to achieve better results?
There are a series of recommendations that your plastic surgeon will give you to make the process easier, the ideal is to follow these recommendations and avoid the intrusion of third parties during the recovery process. In addition, your plastic surgeon will prescribe post-surgery medications to relieve pain and possibly antibiotics to prevent infection.

Scars can severely affect a person’s perception of beauty. The psychological damage can be greater than real, since the person in many cases is constantly reminded how the affected area looked before.

Depending on the type of scar, the plastic surgeon contemplates the most appropriate procedure in each case. Since the hardening and changes in the tissue can affect the treatment to be applied.

What are scars?
According to Docshop, scars are a natural part of the healing process of the skin; however, they can cause pain, discomfort and emotional damage.

Can scars be removed from plastic surgery?
The scars are not removed, nor disappear completely. It can reduce its appearance, making it almost imperceptible through specific care.

For the reduction of scars caused by plastic surgery, the surgeon will start the most appropriate treatment in each case. It usually begins once the healing process of the wound is finished, when the skin has already joined. Ideally, start treatment for scar reduction as soon as possible, but it is also possible to treat the reduction after a long time.

The three basic elements for the care of scars are the following:

Protection. The area must be protected to avoid tearing. It should also be protected from UV radiation from the sun, as it can cause discoloration in the new tissue.

Always use sunscreen, and if possible, cover the skin with clothing or surgical bandages. Avoid friction or pressure of clothes. Make sure to wash regularly and follow the steps indicated by your plastic surgeon.
Hydration. Try to keep your water consumption of 8 glasses a day, as it can contribute enormously in the healing process of the skin. Use moisturizers recommended by your surgeon to keep the skin hydrated and accelerate the healing of it.

Massage. Before applying any skin care product, massage the area gently. Do it delicately over the scar so as not to open it. Pay attention to what your body feels; The massage should not hurt, nor should it irritate the skin. By means of massages with medicines, it can be reduced significantly.
A recent scar can take up to 24 months to settle on the skin, and during that time it is possible to feel that it is still healing.

Arrived in the world as Franklin Isaías Peña Romero, from a young age he knew that his life would be linked to medicine. He became a doctor at the Central Eastern University (UCE) and his preparation continued and at the Padre Billini Hospital, where he did his training in general surgery.

In the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara (Mexico) he studied Plastic Surgery. He is married to Zodale Marie Pichardo, and they have procreated two children: Adele Marie Peña (11 years old) and the restless Franklin Isaías Peña III (8 years old). When asked about that “III” of his offspring, the doctor replied: “Because my father is also called Franklin Isaiah, just like the child and I.” Continue reading “Dr. Franklin Peña”

Influence of Plastic Surgery in Modern Life
Nowadays social networks definitely dominate our personal relationships more than telephone and email do. Plastic surgery does not escape, and one of the main ways of communicating with our patients are social networks Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

In addition, by email many people make their inquiry and then go for a personal evaluation.

Thanks to social networks, the follow-up and friendship that emerges with our patients is easier.

Recently, through our Facebook group * we talked about the influence that plastic surgery has on daily life and I want to share it with you.

• What is the utility of plastic and reconstructive surgery?
The functional and aesthetic reconstruction of tissues.
RECONSTRUCTIVE: restore function after injuries, traumas or cancer.
AESTHETICS: Improve physical appearance due to advanced age, changes in weight and after pregnancies.

• How have advances in plastic surgery been achieved?
The most significant events through which surgery has developed in a general sense are wars, since there are no techniques to treat traumas and mutilations, the doctors had to improvise and from there the most advanced techniques have emerged.

• What has Plastic Surgery popularized?
The cinema, Hollywood, the media.

• How do children see plastic surgery?
When a mother practices a surgical procedure, it is always important to explain to the children in question, since children usually worry when they see their mothers in a state of convalescence; Tell them it is to improve and look prettier. It is sometimes disconcerting for the little ones to see their mom in the recovery stage and at the same time notice them happy with the new changes in their body.

• What influence does plastic surgery have on adolescents?
Because of the stage of emotional development they encounter, adolescents are very sensitive to positive and negative influences. Cosmetic plastic surgery is not a game and is reserved for people over 18 years of age.

There are some procedural exceptions in children and young people such as the case of otoplasty, (prominent ears); Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in young males) and breast reduction due to mammary hypertrophy and gigantomastia in adolescent women.

• What expectations should patients have?
What each person expects from plastic surgery is variable, there are patients with realistic expectations of what surgery can do for them and there are those who dare to think that plastic surgery is magic.

• How are candidates for plastic surgery evaluated?
The protocols include 12 laboratory tests, electrocardiogram, cardiovascular and respiratory evaluation. Also pre anesthetic review.

If the patient is a smoker spirometry and stop smoking strictly 15 days before and one month after surgery. If you have an uncontrolled disorder of the thyroid gland, evaluation by endocrinology.

• How much is the recovery period of a plastic surgery?
In general, two weeks.

• How can an interested person know their budget?
Via telephone, by email or through social networks.
Contact and learn more about plastic surgery in our social networks.

“Breast implant surgery or augmentation mammoplasty is a procedure that offers great satisfaction to women who want to achieve an adequate size, a nice appearance of the breasts and neckline.

Body renewed after going through a pregnancy
The most frequent plastic surgery after this process is the tummy tuck, which consists in removing all the skin that has become flaccid left by the gestation.

Pregnancy is a very beautiful stage in a woman’s life and changes in her body, however after this appear stretch marks, the skin becomes more flaccid and the breasts may fall a little.
