Self-Love: Improve your Appearance

What is self-love and how does it relate to our physical appearance? Self-love is the basis of our self-esteem and emotional well-being. Feeling good about yourself not only affects our internal perception, but is also reflected in our external appearance. As a plastic surgeon, my goal is to help my patients improve their self-esteem and confidence through procedures that enhance their natural beauty.

Self-love involves taking care of ourselves, both physically and emotionally. When we accept and value ourselves as we are, we radiate confidence and attractiveness. However, it is natural that we want to enhance certain aspects of our appearance to feel even better about ourselves. This is where plastic surgery can play an important role.

Plastic surgery procedures are not just about changing physical appearance, but about empowering people to feel more confident and happy about themselves. From rhinoplasties to breast augmentation, each intervention is designed to improve body harmony and proportion, which can have a significant impact on a person’s self-image.

It is essential to remember that the decision to undergo plastic surgery must be personal and supported by strong self-esteem. Plastic surgery is not a substitute for self-love, but rather a tool to enhance it. Before making any decision, it is important to have realistic expectations and a clear understanding of the risks and benefits involved.

In short, self-love and physical appearance are intrinsically linked. When we love and care for ourselves, we naturally want to improve our appearance to reflect that inner confidence. Plastic surgery can be a valid option for those who want to enhance their beauty and feel even more confident in their own skin.

Even if you have read this text and found the idea attractive, the ideal is that before making any decision you consult with an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Franklin Peña, so that he can give you the information and guidance you need to decide whether to This is the ideal procedure in your case.

First, let’s discuss what is body mass index or BMI?

Body mass index is a number calculated based on a person’s weight and height. For medical professionals like Dr. Franklin Peña, BMI is an important indicator that a person may or may not be a patient for plastic surgery.

The body mass index (BMI) is the relationship between weight and the health of our body

How to know if your body mass index is within normal parameters?

Doctors have defined minimum and maximum limits. If a person has a BMI less than 18.5, it means that they are under their ideal weight, and if the body mass index is greater than 29, the person is over their ideal weight.

In general terms, the higher the BMI, the greater the risk of developing certain diseases related to weight gain and obesity, such as diabetes, arthritis, hypertension, cholesterol, and in extreme cases, liver and heart disease.

The BMI is a simple indicator that allows an evaluation of the nutritional status of any person. However, this index, being based only on weight and height, has the limitation of not differentiating between muscle and fat mass, which is why we insist that it should not be used in isolation and we always recommend an evaluation.

What is breast hypertrophy?

Breast hypertrophy or gigantomastia is the exaggerated and rapid development of breasts from adolescence. It is a rare medical condition, and usually begins at the first menstruation of the teenager.

The normal growth or development of the breasts is not a continuous process, but they grow in successive stages. When there is an abrupt and significant growth, it can cause considerable discomfort in the adolescent, mainly redness, uncomfortable skin irritation, discomfort and even widespread pain of one or both breasts.

Reductive mammoplasty: An effective solution for gigantomastia
Back, neck and shoulder pains are very common in those who have too large breasts. And these problems are increasing as the disproportionate size of the breasts.

Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty, as it is also known, is the surgical procedure through which fat, breast tissue and excess breast skin is removed, with the aim of significantly reducing the size and lifting them. In the same intervention it is considered to reduce the dimensions of the areola with the purpose of aesthetically improving this area.

The results of the operation are seen immediately, however, you must wait 2 months to see the final result.

Gigantomastia can be quite uncomfortable, and can impair lifestyle.

Was this information helpful? For all the details of the procedure that can help you improve that condition, access Reductive Mammoplasty.

8 falsehoods about breast augmentation you need to know

Despite being one of the most requested and simple surgeries, it is surrounded by myths and falsehoods that can confuse the patient who wants to undergo breast augmentation.

Mammoplasty or breast augmentation by surgery is one of the most popular procedures in the world, however, there is a lot of disinformation around this, which we will clarify thanks to the extensive and recognized experience of Dr. Franklin Peña, Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Dr. Peña is accredited and belongs to the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILACP), Dominican Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (SODOCIPRE), the Dominican College of Surgeons; He is a full member of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), and is a member of the Dominican Association of Biomedical Journal Editors, among others, in the Dominican Republic.

We have compiled the most frequent concerns that we found on the internet, which Dr. Franklin Peña explains to us to help you make a better decision:

1. Implants must be changed every 10 years
False. Thanks to the advances made in materials, these are increasingly durable. This myth is due to a recommendation of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration of the United States) about breast implants of cohesive silicone gel. This recommendation is obsolete, since more is known about prostheses and these have evolved increasing their quality and durability. At present it is not necessary to change a breast implant unless it is broken, Dr. Pena clarifies.

2. Breast implants make you lose sensitivity
False. During the first days of the postoperative period, there may be less sensitivity due to inflammation of the area, and medications that block pain, but will return to normal.

3. You can not breastfeed after breast implants
False. The implant is placed posterior to the mammary gland, so it does not interfere with milk production, says Dr. Peña.

4. The body can reject implants
False. The implants are neutral to the body. What can happen, as Dr. Peña explains, is that there is a case of a capsular contracture around the implant. But this is not a rejection, and it only happens in 2 or 3% of cases.

5. Breast implants can cause cancer.
False. Numerous scientific studies have been carried out, showing that there is no relationship between breast augmentation with implants and the development of cancer, says Dr. Peña.

6. Prostheses are noticed, they do not look like a natural breast
False. A very natural look can be achieved, this will depend on the size, type of breast of the patient and the shape of the implant.

7. You can not do sports after a mammoplasty.
False. After the intervention, like any other, you should avoid doing activities that involve physical effort, but only

8. The placement of the implant is always the same.
False. Depending on the case, the possibilities are studied, it can be axillary, perialeolar and submammary. It can be placed behind the mammary gland and on top of the muscle or behind the muscle, this is determined in the consultation.

He added: “As specialists, it is important that we know how to respond to the patient each of their questions, understanding that this step in the operating room will have an impact far beyond his body.”

Summing up the exposed thing by the Dr. Franklin Peña, the great part of the prejudices that circulate around the operation of breast enlargement are false. Keep in mind that each body is particular, so all the descriptions that you read are generic and may or may not apply in your case. The advisable thing is to clear the doubts that you have with a plastic surgeon by means of a evaluation.

Breast reduction
Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty, is the surgical procedure used to reduce the size of the breasts, by removing fat, breast tissue and skin.

With this surgery, it is possible to minimize the breasts, making them lighter and firmer, since by the size they tend to weigh and lose firmness over the years.
Women with very large breasts often have health problems due to excess weight on their chest, such as back, neck problems, irritations under the skin of the breast and sometimes have complications with breathing.

Who is the ideal candidate for breast reduction surgery?
Reductive mammoplasty is usually done to alleviate a physical problem, rather than for aesthetic reasons. The volume of the breasts often interferes with daily activities and causes physical discomfort.

The ideal candidates for reduction surgery are women who have large and hanging breasts, which interfere with their physical development, generate discomfort and pain.

What are the benefits?

– Relief from physical discomfort
Heavy, large breasts can deform a woman’s body, especially when they are disproportionately large compared to the structure of her body. This additional weight of the breasts can cause alterations in posture and deformities in the spine.

– Greater satisfaction with appearance and increased confidence
In addition to the physical relief that surgery represents, many patients want breast reduction because they are uncomfortable with the unwanted attention that the size of their chest causes.

– Contact a breast reduction surgeon for more information
It is very important that the patient be evaluated by a qualified cosmetic surgeon to get more information about the options that are available to treat your case.

Abdominoplasty and liposuction, buttock and breast augmentation, are just some of the requested combinations.

First, it must be understood that combining different surgeries or procedures in a single intervention is not always feasible. Determining whether or not a patient is a candidate to combine these procedures should be through appropriate medical studies to ensure the patient’s health.

If we think about this, we must also say that combining procedures is economically more profitable (the costs of the operating room or hospitalization are covered at one time) and physiologically more bearable (if we do not want to do atrocities), because we only went through a postoperative period and Not for several. Thus, surgery for example of a tummy tuck and a simultaneous liposculpture-lipotransference will produce a much better result than just doing a tummy tuck and will not really prolong the recovery time significantly (we will go from 15 days to 20).

Combining surgeries, apart from assuming that the use of a single anesthetic for several procedures could reduce the operating cost of plastic surgery, but it is also very important that the patient is in very good physical condition.

The combination of different plastic surgeries should only be viable, if it does not increase the surgical risk.

How to know whether or not you are a candidate for combined surgeries? This is determined in a medical consultation by doing the necessary studies.

Remember that you can request your consultation online to know the budget.

Reiterating the beginning of our post, during the pre-surgical consultation your plastic surgeon will tell you what is best according to your reality and needs, whether they are independent or combined interventions.

In short, is it worthwhile to combine surgeries? Yes, if it is worth it, when who makes them is an honest, competent and qualified professional, who always looks after your health first and your well-being.

The most frequent cancer in women is the breast cancer, but as of 2006, thanks to the campaigns worldwide that urge early detection, the mortality rate.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) each year there are 1.38 million new cases and 458 thousand deaths from breast cancer. The knowledge about the possible causes of breast cancer is insufficient, as to prevent them.

So early detection is still essential to fight against this disease. When it is detected in time, an adequate diagnosis is established and treatment is available, making the chances of cure high.

Therefore, every October the World Health Organization promotes comprehensive programs to combat this disease, giving priority to prevention strategies and timely detection based on self-exploration and mammography.

In this context, it is very important that the woman is made from the age of 20, a self-examination of breasts every month, a practice that must be taught by the medical and nursing staff to know and recognize the warning signs.

Join the campaign: share information and raise awareness

It is very likely that you are or have been close to someone fighting breast cancer, and you will know that many of these brave women have triumphed in defeating this terrible disease. Early detection gives you a very high cure margin.

On the other hand, there are risk factors (biological, environmental and reproductive history) that can not be modified; However, a series of factors related to lifestyle can be avoided and thus reduce the risk of suffering from this disease, which consist of a diet high in carbohydrates and low in fiber, consumption of animal fats and trans fats, obesity, mainly after menopause, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption greater than 15g a day, smoking, among others.

Reconstructive plastic breast surgery
Those who have undergone surgery to treat breast cancer can choose various types of breast reconstruction.

If you decided to undergo breast reconstruction, there are still many issues to consider as you and your doctors discuss the type of reconstruction that is best for you. Some of the factors that you and your doctors will need to take into account when considering your options are:

Your general health (including issues that may affect your recovery, such as smoking or certain health conditions)

The size and location of cancer

The size of your breast The complexity of breast cancer surgery

If you need treatments other than surgery for cancer The amount of tissue available (for example, very thin women may not have enough extra tissue in the abdomen to use this area for breast reconstruction)

If you want to undergo reconstructive surgery on one or both breasts Your desire to match the appearance of the other breast The coverage of your health insurance and related costs for the unaffected breast

How fast you want to be able to recover from surgery

Your willingness to undergo potentially more than one surgery as part of the reconstruction

How different types of reconstructive surgery can affect other parts of your body

Your surgeon will review your medical history and general health, and explain which reconstruction options are best for you, based on your age, health, body structure, lifestyle, goals, among other factors. Talk frankly with your surgeon about your preferences. Be sure to express any concerns and priorities you have for the reconstruction, and look for a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable. Your surgeon should explain the limits, risks and benefits of each option.

The breasts are a very important part of a woman’s body, both because of her maternal function and because of the female sexual attractiveness they represent, and although there is no ideal size of the breasts (since this varies from person to person), every woman should feel at ease with her breasts. If that is not the case, there are surgical procedures through which we can achieve aesthetically pleasing breasts.

Breast reduction surgery consists of the surgical process that decreases the volume of the breasts because of an excess in the breast tissue, better known as breast hypertrophy (very large breasts) which is usually a problem both aesthetic and health for patients. Continue reading “Breast reduction”
