Scars can severely affect a person’s perception of beauty. The psychological damage can be greater than real, since the person in many cases is constantly reminded how the affected area looked before.

Depending on the type of scar, the plastic surgeon contemplates the most appropriate procedure in each case. Since the hardening and changes in the tissue can affect the treatment to be applied.

What are scars?
According to Docshop, scars are a natural part of the healing process of the skin; however, they can cause pain, discomfort and emotional damage.

Can scars be removed from plastic surgery?
The scars are not removed, nor disappear completely. It can reduce its appearance, making it almost imperceptible through specific care.

For the reduction of scars caused by plastic surgery, the surgeon will start the most appropriate treatment in each case. It usually begins once the healing process of the wound is finished, when the skin has already joined. Ideally, start treatment for scar reduction as soon as possible, but it is also possible to treat the reduction after a long time.

The three basic elements for the care of scars are the following:

Protection. The area must be protected to avoid tearing. It should also be protected from UV radiation from the sun, as it can cause discoloration in the new tissue.

Always use sunscreen, and if possible, cover the skin with clothing or surgical bandages. Avoid friction or pressure of clothes. Make sure to wash regularly and follow the steps indicated by your plastic surgeon.
Hydration. Try to keep your water consumption of 8 glasses a day, as it can contribute enormously in the healing process of the skin. Use moisturizers recommended by your surgeon to keep the skin hydrated and accelerate the healing of it.

Massage. Before applying any skin care product, massage the area gently. Do it delicately over the scar so as not to open it. Pay attention to what your body feels; The massage should not hurt, nor should it irritate the skin. By means of massages with medicines, it can be reduced significantly.
A recent scar can take up to 24 months to settle on the skin, and during that time it is possible to feel that it is still healing.
